Archivio Zeta faces potential closure of Futa Cemetery venue

The theater company Archivio Zeta faces potential restrictions on its performances at the Futa German Cemetery in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The cemetery, which serves as a significant architectural site and a long-standing ‘scenographic’ backdrop for the group’s work, is at risk of closing its doors to theatrical productions due to decisions by the German war graves commission.

Founded in 1999 by Enrica Sangiovanni and Gianluca Guidotti, Archivio Zeta has utilized the site for over two decades to explore existential themes through works by authors such as Kafka, Shakespeare, and Dostoevsky. The company’s most recent project, a two-year production based on Kafka’s ‘The Trial’, focuses on the nature of judicial and existential judgment within the geography of the cemetery.
