Arcom issues formal notice to Europe 1 over presenter's remarks
The French media regulator, Arcom, has issued a formal notice to the radio station Europe 1 following comments made by presenter Christine Kelly in January. The regulator determined that Kelly's remarks were “of a nature to incite hatred and encourage discriminatory behavior” toward migrants based on their origin or nationality.
During a broadcast on January 26, Kelly discussed a rape case in Nice involving a Tunisian national. During the debate, she stated, “We are not saying that all migrants are rapists, but many are, as the figures reveal.” Arcom noted that these comments were made without any reaction or pushback from other participants on air.
This formal notice serves as a warning and precedes potential financial sanctions. The decision follows a previous warning issued to the station in January. Europe 1 is part of the Lagardère Radio division, which is controlled by the Louis Hachette Group and Vincent Bolloré.
