Arcom issues warning to Radio France over distorted audio of Jean-Luc Mélenchon

The French audiovisual regulator, Arcom, has issued a formal warning to Radio France following the broadcast of a truncated audio clip on France Culture. The clip, which originated from social media, was used to suggest an ideological proximity between Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the antisemitic statements of Jean-Marie Le Pen.

Arcom determined that the broadcast, which aired during a morning program, distorted Mélenchon’s original remarks by presenting them in a different context and on a different subject. The regulator stated that the use of the manipulated audio constituted a failure to meet professional requirements for honesty and factual accuracy.

The decision follows an official complaint filed by the La France Insoumise political movement. While the station’s management and the presenter had previously expressed regret for the incident, Arcom’s ruling emphasizes the legal obligation of public service broadcasters to maintain rigorous and accurate information standards.
