Arcon orders Águas do Pará to suspend unverified billing

The Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Services of the State of Pará (Arcon) has notified Águas do Pará to immediately suspend the billing and reactivation of user accounts that were conducted without proper technical verification.

Arcon's analysis identified signs of mass automatic reactivation of inactive legacy accounts from the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa), as well as billing based on estimated volumes for units that were either disconnected by request or provided with their own water sources. Additionally, some consumers received notices regarding sewage network availability with charges set to begin on the next invoice.

The concessionaire is required to demonstrate the availability of the network to the regulator to justify these charges. The suspension of billing will remain in place until a technical inspection is performed and billing for the affected consumer units is reviewed. Águas do Pará must also launch an information campaign across its official channels to guide users on the new procedures.
