Arcop to develop national strategy for sustainable public procurement in Senegal
The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (Arcop) is establishing a steering committee to develop a national strategy for sustainable public purchasing in Senegal. The initiative aims to transition government procurement toward more environmentally friendly and circular practices, particularly within the construction sector.
Arcop Director General Moustapha Djitté announced that the committee will include representatives from the administration, the private sector, and civil society. The group will work to identify obstacles, define priority actions, and create a national roadmap. Fodé Fall, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition, emphasized that the ecological transition of the building sector requires a collective approach rather than relying solely on the ministry.
Currently, price remains the primary criterion in public administration purchases, while environmental impact is insufficiently integrated despite existing regulatory frameworks, such as the 2022 Public Procurement Code.
