Arcos da Lapa receives new permanent scenic lighting in Rio de Janeiro

The City of Rio de Janeiro, through RioLuz and in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, has installed a new permanent scenic lighting system at the Arcos da Lapa. Launched during the Semana de Arte do Rio, the system utilizes RGBW technology to allow the landmark to change colors for various events, cultural manifestations, awareness campaigns, and commemorative dates.

The installation includes 50 RGBW projectors and 75 meters of cabling, all remotely controlled to create different lighting scenarios. According to Municipal Secretary of Culture Lucas Padilha, the project serves as a “light screen” in the heart of the city to communicate cultural initiatives and value the city's architecture.

As part of the broader Semana de Arte do Rio, other monuments are also receiving RGBW lighting upgrades, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Penha, the Church of São Jorge, and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação. Additionally, decorative lighting has been implemented at the Church of Carmo da Antiga Sé, the Church of Santa Rita de Cássia, and the Convent of Santo Antônio.
