Arcos de la Frontera recovers from severe storm and hail damage

The municipality of Arcos de la Frontera is working to restore normalcy following a violent storm and hailstorm that struck on Monday. The intense weather event, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, dropped an estimated 56 liters of water in a very short period, causing significant damage to both public and private property.

Mayor Miguel Rodríguez reported that the storm caught the town by surprise, as weather forecasts had not predicted such high volumes of water. The deluge resulted in the flooding of streets, homes, and businesses, with some areas seeing mud levels reach up to one meter. Structural damage includes collapsed walls at the De La Salle school, landslides in the Camino de las Nieves, Guatemala, and Fuente del Río areas, and rockfalls in the Portichuelo neighborhood.

The municipal sports pavilion suffered extensive damage, specifically to its roof due to hail, which allowed water to flood the interior and damage the football field access. Consequently, local sports competitions are being rescheduled or moved to alternative venues to ensure public safety. Cleanup efforts are ongoing, and local authorities are focusing on preventive measures for flood-prone areas.
