Arcsa closes seafood restaurant in Guayaquil over hygiene violations

The National Agency for Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance (Arcsa) has closed a seafood establishment in southern Guayaquil due to severe hygiene and food handling violations.

During inspections, authorities discovered rodent droppings on tables, counters, and inside egg buckets. The facility also showed signs of other pests, including cockroaches and flies landing on shellfish. Inspectors noted that seafood was not being kept under proper refrigeration and found a cat inside the food preparation area.

Furthermore, the establishment posed a high risk of cross-contamination, as raw fish was stored alongside vegetables in a dirty refrigerator. Arcsa has sealed the premises, stating it will remain closed until necessary sanitary improvements are implemented.
