Arc’teryx launches System 0 circular design framework

Arc’teryx has introduced “System 0,” a new design and manufacturing framework aimed at integrating circularity into the entire lifecycle of its technical apparel. The initiative focuses on designing products that can be used longer, repaired easily, and eventually regenerated into new materials.

The first product released under this framework is the Sperro SV, a multi-sport hardshell jacket. Developed in collaboration with Gore-Tex using ePE membrane technology, the jacket is designed for high performance in waterproof, windproof, and breathable standards. To support longevity, the jacket includes reinforcement at high-wear areas and an easily replaceable zipper slider. Arc’teryx is also offering three years of unlimited, out-of-warranty repairs through its ReBIRD programme.

At the end of the product's life, the Sperro SV is designed for disassembly. It utilizes a chemical recycling process to separate the nylon from the Gore-Tex membrane. The recovered nylon is sent to Aquafil to be regenerated into new yarn, such as Econyl. CEO Stuart Haselden stated that System 0 represents a fundamental shift in how the company builds and scales its business with circularity at the forefront.
