Arctic Corsair museum ship moves to permanent Hull berth

The Arctic Corsair, a 66-year-old museum ship and the last sidewinder trawler from Hull, has completed its final voyage to a permanent berth at the North End Shipyard. The move follows a £4.8 million restoration conducted by Dunston Ship Repairs as part of the Hull Maritime project, which aims to establish the port as Yorkshire’s Maritime City.

Built in 1960 in Beverley for the Boyd Line, the 693-tonne vessel has a storied history, including a world-record catch and involvement in the Cod Wars. The ship was moved from Albert Dock with the assistance of tugs Lashette and Shovette. Hundreds of spectators gathered along the Humber and near The Deep aquarium to witness the relocation.

The Arctic Corsair serves as a centerpiece for a new visitor center. It is currently the UK’s only distant-water sidewinder trawler permanently accessible to the public as a floating attraction.
