Arctic cruise expansion: HX Expeditions' Greenland guarantee and Iceland's Akranes port revival
On June 21, marking Greenland's National Day, HX Expeditions announced that its "HX Greenland Promise" will apply to all cruises to Greenland in 2026 and 2027. The guarantee gives passengers the option to transfer to another sailing, receive a 20 % credit for a future cruise, or obtain a full refund if a trip is canceled or the government advises against travel. HX Expeditions vice‑president Karin Strand and CEO Gebhard Rainer emphasized the aim to boost confidence for travelers to the Arctic destination.
Separately, the Ponant expedition vessel Le Bellot docked at Akranes, Iceland, becoming the first cruise to call at the port since 2021. The arrival was welcomed with traditional Icelandic music, and the port is slated for additional cruise visits, including the SH Vegal on 14 August. Officials highlighted Akranes' scenic coastal setting and its proximity to Reykjavik as an appealing stop for cruise passengers.
