ARD releases miniseries on 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack
The ARD miniseries ‘Breitscheidplatz 19/12’ explores the events leading up to the devastating 2016 terrorist attack at the Berlin Christmas market. The six-part series, directed by David Nawrath, focuses on the period before the attack and examines how Anis Amri, a known individual within Islamist circles, was able to carry out the strike despite being under observation by various German state security institutions.
On December 19, 2016, the 23-year-old Tunisian national killed a Polish truck driver, hijacked the vehicle, and drove it into a crowd at Breitscheidplatz. The attack resulted in 13 deaths and approximately 70 injuries. The series features Albrecht Schuch as state security officer Frank Laudin and Bayan Layla as police officer Isra Al-Husseini.
