ARD releases thriller series on 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack

The German broadcaster ARD is releasing a six-part thriller series titled ‘Breitscheidplatz 19/12’ (internationally titled ‘Blindspot Berlin’) which dramatizes the events leading up to the 2016 Islamist terror attack on the Berlin Christmas market.

The series, directed by David Nawrath, focuses on the investigation by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office (LKA) and the role of radical hate preachers. It highlights how informants had provided specific information regarding the perpetrator, Anis Amri, to the LKA as early as 2015.

Key characters in the dramatization include LKA investigator Frank Laudin and undercover informant Murat Cem. The series is scheduled to air on November 1 and 6, with availability in the ARD media library starting October 30.
