ARD series Blindspot Berlin premieres at Toronto Film Festival
The six-part ARD series ‘Breitscheidplatz 19/12’, released internationally as ‘Blindspot Berlin’, held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The production reconstructs the eighteen months of investigations leading up to the December 19, 2016, terrorist attack on the Berlin Christmas market. The narrative focuses on the efforts of a state protector and an informant within Islamist circles to track the perpetrator, Anis Amri, while highlighting how the threat was underestimated by authorities.
Director and co-writer David Nawrath expressed enthusiasm regarding the international reception, noting that the series’ themes appear to be universal. Producer Simon Amberger also reported a highly engaged audience response during the festival screening.
