Ardo to close Groß-Enzersdorf production plant in 2027
Ardo Austria Frost GmbH has announced it will close its production and packaging plant in Groß-Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, in 2027. The decision affects approximately 190 permanent employees and 50 temporary workers. The company stated that the facility is aging and would require significant investments in production, packaging, and storage that are not economically justifiable for the relatively small domestic market.
Production is expected to continue until December 2026. Moving forward, Ardo plans to shift its focus in Austria toward distribution from a new, yet-to-be-determined location in the Vienna region.
The union PRO-GE has expressed serious concern regarding the closure, calling for a rapid social plan and job security for the affected workforce. The union warned that the shutdown threatens regional value creation and domestic food security, as the plant is a major producer of frozen vegetables. Additionally, the closure could impact approximately 300 farmers in the Marchfeld region who supply raw materials such as peas, carrots, and spinach to the facility.
