Arena di Verona hosts grand productions of Aida and Turandot

The Arena di Verona continues its tradition of grand-scale operatic productions with performances of Verdi’s ‘Aida’ and Puccini’s ‘Turandot’. Both productions utilize the historic venue’s scale through the acclaimed stagings of Franco Zeffirelli.

In ‘Aida’, the production features a dramatic setting of ancient Egypt with towering frameworks and period-accurate costumes. Key performances include Maria José Siri as Aida, Clémentine Margaine as Amneris, and Yusif Eyvazov as Radamès. The production is noted for its strong choral singing and intense dramatic momentum.

In ‘Turandot’, the production emphasizes visual grandeur with sets and costumes by Oscar Emi Wada. Conducted by Andrea Battistoni, the performance features soprano Anna Pirozzi in the title role. The production recreates the atmosphere of imperial Beijing, focusing on the high-stakes drama of the princess’s enigmas and the courage of Prince Calaf.
