ARENA outlines strategy for El Salvador 2027 elections

The ARENA party has outlined its strategy for El Salvador’s 2027 elections. Party president Carlos García Saade announced a goal to secure at least 12 mayoralties and 10 deputies. The party plans to focus its campaign on economic issues, criticizing the current administration's handling of the economy and the perceived absence of IMF support.

ARENA has proposed a female presidential ticket consisting of Mayteé Iraheta for president and Verónica Henríquez for vice president. Saade emphasized the professional backgrounds of both candidates, noting Henríquez’s experience in municipal and agricultural sectors and Iraheta’s legal and academic expertise.

Political analyst Remberto González provided a different perspective on the upcoming contest, suggesting that candidates from traditional parties like ARENA and FMLN face an uphill battle. González stated that there is currently no political figure capable of defeating President Nayib Bukele, describing a run against the incumbent as a “political suicide” due to Bukele's dominance over issues traditionally held by the left and right.
