ARENA provides AU$2 million to Alchemy Charge for strata EV charging

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has committed AU$2 million to Sydney-based Alchemy Charge to support electric vehicle (EV) charging installations for apartment residents. The funding is part of the AU$7.4 million Strata Assist programme, which utilizes a digital platform to manage strata approvals alongside Alchemy’s SmartPoint charging hardware.

The initiative aims to address challenges faced by EV owners in strata properties, such as uncertainty regarding permissions, electrical requirements, and installation costs. Research from the University of New South Wales indicates that approximately 15% of the Australian population, or 4.1 million people, live in strata-titled properties.

This support arrives as Australia surpassed 500,000 battery electric vehicles in September. The Electric Vehicle Council has identified charging access for renters and apartment dwellers as a critical factor for future EV adoption growth.
