AREPO to premiere “Ópera Graffiti” in Torres Vedras
AREPO – Ópera e Artes Contemporâneas will premiere “Ópera Graffiti” on September 26 and 27 at the Centro de Artes e Criatividade in Torres Vedras. The production is a contemporary creation that blends classical music, hip-hop, graffiti, and urban culture.
The performance uses phrases collected from graffiti across Portugal to build a continuous one-hour narrative exploring urban life, its inhabitants, and various social contexts. The production features singers Nuno de Araújo Pereira, Inês Simões, and Ricardo Rebelo da Silva, accompanied by violinists, bassoonists, and double bass players, alongside dancer Beatriz Pereira.
Prior to the stage debut, the project has been introduced via Antena 2, which broadcasts 12 mini-operas based on the project's themes every Tuesday at 15:00. The work aims to bridge the gap between traditional opera and diverse audiences by utilizing familiar urban languages to reflect on contemporary society.
