Arequipa advances 2026 school year end date to December 11
The regional education office in Arequipa has announced that the 2026 school year will conclude on December 11. This decision moves the end of the academic year forward by one week from the original date of December 18.
Regional Education Manager Marco Choque Manrique stated that the adjustment involves moving the management week, originally scheduled for mid-October, to the end of December. This change aims to protect students and staff from potential emergencies and heavy rainfall associated with the El Niño phenomenon, while still meeting the effective learning hours required by the Ministry of Education.
The measure applies to both public and private schools across all levels. Arequipa joins other Peruvian regions, such as Piura, La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Áncash, which have also modified their academic calendars to mitigate risks posed by seasonal weather patterns.
