Arequipa music scene features Los Shapis gala and Reverb Chamber international recognition

The musical scene in Arequipa is seeing significant activity through both legendary acts and emerging independent artists. The renowned group Los Shapis is bringing their ‘Gala Sinfónica’ to Arequipa for the first time on November 21 at the Palacio Metropolitano de Bellas Artes. To celebrate their 45th anniversary, the group will perform with over 30 musicians, blending traditional Peruvian chicha music with symphonic arrangements composed by Lito Santos.

In the independent scene, the Arequipa-based band Reverb Chamber has gained international attention. Led by María José Villegas, the group’s contemplative dream pop and shoegaze sound has reached the influential American radio station KEXP. Their recent work, released under Catenaria Discos, explores themes of emotional vulnerability and catharsis, marking a growing presence for the city’s independent music movement.
