Arequipa organizations propose 115 measures to protect cultural heritage

Civil society organizations in Arequipa, Peru, have presented an agenda comprising 115 measures aimed at protecting the region's cultural and historical heritage. The initiative, which has the support of ICOMOS (an entity associated with UNESCO), includes 61 proposals for the province and 54 for the regional level.

Urgent provincial measures include the approval of a Multimodal Mobility Plan for the Historic Center to expand pedestrian streets and bike lanes, as well as the medium-term goal of removing overhead wiring from main streets. Other priorities involve developing a specific plan for the Chili River urban basin to create public spaces, such as a linear park from Chilina to Congata.

In the cultural sector, the groups propose creating competitive funds for the arts and creative industries with independent juries. To support Arequipa's development as a Creative City, the agenda also calls for stricter oversight of informality and the enforcement of regulations regarding the use of animals for entertainment.
