Arequipa signs agreement for New City of Siguas urban development
The Regional Government of Arequipa, the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, and the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa have signed a tripartite cooperation agreement to plan the urban and territorial development of the New City of Siguas (also referred to as Majes).
The project aims to develop approximately 4,300 hectares between the districts of Vitor and Siguas, with a projected capacity of 300,000 homes. The initiative seeks to organize population growth while protecting lands designated for agricultural activities through integrated planning that includes basic services, health, education, and green spaces.
Authorities are exploring various execution methods, including private investment through asset-based projects to avoid direct state spending. The development is linked to the Majes Siguas Integral Special Project and aims to create a new economic, industrial, and residential hub in southern Peru.
