Arequipa: Two explosive attacks target homes in Miraflores

Two explosive attacks targeting residential properties have caused alarm in the Miraflores district of Arequipa. The incidents occurred within approximately 80 minutes of each other on a single afternoon.

The first explosion took place around 17:20 in the Chapi Chico urbanization, targeting a five-story building. The blast damaged a door and shattered windows, with the shockwave affecting four neighboring homes. The second attack occurred at 18:40 in the Tomasa Tito Condemayta area, striking a three-story residence and causing damage to a metal door and windows.

Specialists from the Explosive Deactivation Unit (UDEX) and detectives from the Divincri Arequipa Kidnapping and Extortion unit have collected evidence at both sites. Investigators are currently evaluating whether the attacks are linked to extortion attempts or disputes between criminal gangs. This follows a pattern of increasing violence in the region, with five explosive attacks reported in the area within the last month.
