Areu nurses provide guidance on cardiac arrest and choking response

Nurses from the Areu Regional Emergency Urgency Agency in Lombardy have issued guidance on life-saving maneuvers for cardiac arrest and airway obstructions. During a practical training session in Milan, experts emphasized that performing chest compressions, even by inexperienced individuals, is not dangerous and is far less critical than failing to act during a cardiac arrest.

In the event of cardiac arrest, the recommended procedure is to immediately call the emergency number 112, begin chest compressions, and utilize a defibrillator if one is available nearby, following the instructions provided by emergency operators. To maintain effectiveness during compressions, rescuers should alternate roles if fatigue sets in.

For cases of airway obstruction or choking, characterized by a person clutching their neck and changing color, nurses recommend two types of maneuvers: interscapular back blows and abdominal thrusts. Prompt intervention and calling 112 are essential in these situations to increase survival rates.
