Arganda del Rey launches historical memory project

The Arganda del Rey City Council has launched ‘Arganda en memoria’, an initiative designed to preserve and promote the local history and traditions of the municipality. Presented by Mayor Alberto Escribano ahead of the 2026 patron saint festivities, the project aims to strengthen the connection between residents and their local heritage.

The program involves installing explanatory plaques in emblematic locations to detail the origins of street names and significant historical events. Key sites identified include La Arroya, which refers to a former stream and the historic Puente del Cura; Cuesta de la Peña, noted for its geological features and connection to local bullfighting traditions; and Cuesta de la Cárcel, named after the town's former prison and the 16th-century residence of Diego de Vargas.

This installation marks the first phase of a multi-year series of recognitions intended to ensure that future generations understand the historical milestones that have shaped the community.
