Arganzuela fire kills man in Madrid storage unit blaze

A 25-year-old man died following a major fire in a storage area on Calle Canarias in the Arganzuela district of Madrid. The fire, which occurred in a basement level, involved several storage units containing electric bicycles used for deliveries.

Thirteen crews from the Madrid Fire Department responded to the scene, describing the blaze as highly developed and difficult to access due to a labyrinthine layout of two interconnected floors. The presence of electric bicycles significantly increased the thermal load, complicating extinction efforts.

Firefighters located the victim inside one of the units and evacuated him to medical personnel from SAMUR-Protección Civil. Despite emergency efforts, the man died from smoke inhalation and respiratory burns. The National Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the victim's presence at the location.
