Argenis Contreras sentenced to 20 years for Yuniol Ramírez murder

The Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice in the Dominican Republic has rejected a cassation appeal filed by Argenis Contreras González, making his 20-year prison sentence final. Contreras, a former employee of the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA), was convicted for the 2017 murder of lawyer and university professor Yuniol Ramírez Ferreras.

Ramírez was kidnapped from the UASD campus and later found dead in a stream in Manoguayabo. The prosecution established that Contreras was the material author of the killing. Following this ruling, Contreras must serve his full sentence at the Najayo Hombres Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in San Cristóbal and pay the legal costs of the proceedings.
