Argentina accelerates legislative agenda for budget and reforms

The Argentine government is implementing a strategy to accelerate legislative negotiations in Congress to avoid calling extraordinary sessions during the summer. The administration aims to pass several priority projects before the end of the regular legislative period, including the national budget, the National Sovereignty Defense law, and electoral reforms such as the elimination of Primarias Abiertas, Simultáneas y Obligatorias (PASO).

In addition to electoral changes, legislative efforts are focusing on combating gambling addiction among youth. A proposal led by Micaela Olivetto and Facundo Tignanelli seeks to treat compulsive gambling as a public health issue. The initiative includes modifying online betting regulations and introducing mandatory real-time facial biometric recognition for users to verify identity and age. The proposal also suggests making user accounts non-transferable and requiring betting companies to provide tools for users to set deposit limits.
