Argentina activists address gender roles and LGBTQ+ rights
Activists and gender policy representatives are addressing the challenges facing LGBTQ+ rights and the evolution of social roles in Argentina. Federico Sachi, national secretary of Masculinities for the FALGBT+, is advocating for the concept of ‘new masculinities’ to dismantle violence and patriarchal stereotypes. Sachi emphasizes the need to transform power dynamics in spaces such as labor unions, including the oil and construction sectors, by encouraging men to question traditional social mandates and embrace empathy.
In Río Gallegos, Rodrigo Ordóñez of the municipal Gender Policy Directorate highlighted the rise of hate speech and the impact of budget cuts to provincial and national public policies. Commemorating the legacy of Carlos Jáuregui, Ordóñez noted that information and territorial organization are essential tools for resistance against the dismantling of rights. The local administration continues to provide legal advice and health services to counter discrimination and the loss of institutional support for comprehensive sexual education.
