Argentina adopts new electrical safety rules while Mexico stresses power stability for the digital economy

The International Energy Agency (IEA) describes the current period as the "Age of Electricity," noting that global electricity consumption is projected to rise about 3.7% in 2026. It argues that reliable power has become a strategic factor for competitiveness as industries, homes, data centers, AI applications and other digital services depend on uninterrupted electricity.

In Mexico, policymakers are highlighting the need to ensure electrical stability to support the growing digital economy, emphasizing that any power interruption can immediately affect productivity, cloud services, financial transactions and industrial automation.

Meanwhile, Argentina has issued Resolution 237/2024, which permits the acceptance of foreign test results and international certifications for electrical equipment. The change aims to simplify procedures, reduce administrative burdens and accelerate the introduction of new technologies, thereby enhancing industrial competitiveness. The new framework also shifts greater responsibility to manufacturers, importers and technical professionals for verifying equipment safety, prompting concerns about maintaining high safety standards.
