Argentina advances LNG export projects through new laws and technical contracts
Argentina has established a new regulatory framework for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports. Under Law 27.742, the government can grant firm export authorizations for up to thirty years. This measure aims to provide investment certainty by ensuring that authorized export volumes cannot be subject to unpredictable reductions, provided that domestic gas supply remains sufficient. The Secretary of Energy has issued Resolution 145/2025 to regulate the specific procedures for these applications.
In related developments for the Argentina LNG project, which seeks to utilize gas from the Vaca Muerta formation, several technical milestones are underway. Bahía Grande has been contracted by UTEC Geo-Services to conduct seabed geotechnical surveys using the vessel BG Warrior. This work is essential for designing the support systems and anchoring for pipelines.
Additionally, Tecnimont USA Inc. has signed a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract with Argent LNG, LLC for an export facility located at Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The facility is projected to have a total capacity of 25 million tons per annum (MTPA). The FEED phase will provide the technical definition and cost estimations required to move toward a Final Investment Decision and subsequent construction.
