Argentina advances major bridge and road projects to boost regional mobility

The provincial government of Santa Fe is overseeing the construction of the new Puente Carretero, a bridge linking Santa Fe and Santo Tomé. Funded with more than 37.5 billion pesos, the project is 65 % complete on the bridge structure and 60 % on the access roads, with traffic diversions set to begin next week.

Autovía del Mercosur, the concessionaire for a key international corridor, has carried out works on National Routes 12 and 14, improving lighting at the Paso de los Libres border crossing, repairing concrete pavement, and maintaining drainage to enhance safety.

A private concession, Conexión Alto Delta S.A., completed the first‑stage upgrades of the Rosario‑Victoria bridge and the 59.43 km corridor of Route 174 six months ahead of schedule, including resurfacing, crack sealing, signage renewal and illumination upgrades.

Separately, officials are discussing future international bridges—Monte Caseros–Bella Unión, Alvear–Itaquí, and a second Chaco–Corrientes crossing—to strengthen Mercosur’s physical integration, with proposals emphasizing bimodal (road‑rail) designs that could transform regional freight logistics.
