Argentina advances overhaul of companies law and real‑estate deregulation

The Argentine Senate has begun reviewing a sweeping reform to replace the 1972 Companies Law, a project promoted by the executive branch to modernize the legal framework for corporations. Senator Víctor Zimmermann (UCR), acting as the bloc’s secretary‑general, has organized technical meetings with advisors from the ten radical senators, experts from the Institute of Directors of Argentina and the University National del Nordeste, seeking academic and professional input before the bill is debated in the chamber.

At the same time, the national government is preparing a separate bill to deregulate the real‑estate market, aiming to remove compulsory intermediaries and loosen contracting rules to boost competition. The proposal has faced uniform opposition from professional associations and major firms in the La Plata region, who warn that dismantling mandatory registration of brokers could undermine legal certainty. They also note that provincial authorities retain regulatory powers that could limit the bill’s impact.
