Argentina advances precision agriculture via satellite monitoring

Argentina is undergoing a transformation in agricultural management through the integration of satellite imagery, digital platforms, sensors, and geographic information systems. This shift toward precision agriculture is particularly impactful in fruit production, where detailed data on irrigation, nutrition, and plant development can significantly influence yields.

Rather than relying solely on traditional manual field inspections, producers are increasingly using remote monitoring to analyze variables such as water status and vegetation vigor. The National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA) has been developing remote monitoring and precision tools for several years. These technologies allow for the calculation of indices like the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to assess plant health across large areas, converting satellite measurements into actionable data for better decision-making.
