Argentina advances precision livestock farming through agtech
Argentina is seeing significant advancements in precision livestock farming through the application of genomic analysis and real-time data monitoring. The startup Bulltrack is utilizing SaaS logic to transform bovine DNA analysis into actionable genetic rankings. By integrating genomic data from tools like Zoetis’s Inherit, the platform helps producers decide which animals to keep, which to discard, and which semen to purchase, directly impacting economic margins through improved feed conversion and weight gain.
In the sheep sector, research led by Juan Mauricio Álvarez of INTA is advancing precision livestock management. Using virtual fences and sensors, researchers can monitor individual behaviors and mother-offspring relationships in real time. This technology allows for a shift in management scale from the herd to the individual animal, improving animal welfare and environmental sustainability by providing data-driven insights that minimize human observation errors.
