Argentina advances privatization of state-owned enterprises
The Argentine government is advancing a new phase of privatizations and concessions for state-owned companies, authorized under the Ley Bases. Key entities targeted for these processes include AySA, ENARSA, Intercargo, Belgrano Cargas, SOFSE, and Corredores Viales. Additionally, Nucleoeléctrica and Yacimientos Carboníferos de Río Turbio have been enabled for partial processes.
Significant asset transfers have already occurred. The privatization of the Comahue hydroelectric dams at the end of 2025 reportedly brought approximately USD 707 million to the Treasury. In May 2026, the state's participation in CITELEC, the controlling entity of Transener, was awarded for USD 356 million.
Regarding AySA, the planned scheme involves selling the state's current 90% stake, with a requirement that at least 51% remains in the hands of a strategic operator. Meanwhile, Intercargo began its bidding process in March 2026.
