Argentina advances SABIA-Mar satellite and appoints new CONAE director

Argentina's space agency, CONAE, has appointed Josefina Pérès as its new executive and technical director. An electronic engineer with over 15 years of experience at the agency, Pérès previously held leadership roles in the Saocom mission and served as the Satellite Projects Manager.

Simultaneously, the SABIA-Mar satellite (Satellite for Environmental Information Applications of the Sea) has successfully passed a technical review at INVAP facilities in Bariloche. Following evaluations by national and international experts, the satellite is now prepared to begin environmental testing to simulate launch and space operating conditions.

Developed by CONAE and INVAP, the SABIA-Mar mission is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2027. The satellite is designed to study marine environments and coastal zones, providing strategic data for natural resource protection and the monitoring of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
