Argentina advances Super RIGI incentives for rare‑earth mining and nuclear project

The Argentine government has moved to approve a "Super RIGI" (Super Regime of Incentives for Large Investments) that expands tax, customs and currency benefits beyond the previous RIGI framework. The regime targets private investments of at least US$1 billion, offering 30‑year regulatory stability, access to foreign tribunals and eliminating local procurement requirements.

The plan is intended to attract new‑industry projects, notably the extraction of rare‑earth elements deemed strategic for digital technologies and artificial‑intelligence supply chains. It also underpins a US‑backed proposal by Meitner Energy to build a 300‑MW modular nuclear reactor at the Atucha site, a US$1.2 billion private investment that would create about 2,000 direct jobs. Government spokesperson Adrian Ravier called the initiative "a revolution" for Argentina's nuclear sector and emphasized that the investment will be financed entirely with private capital, enhancing energy security without state cost.

The scheme aligns with the United States' Pax Silica initiative, positioning Argentina as a reliable supplier of critical minerals for AI and other high‑tech applications.
