Argentina advisor claims 60% of disability pensions are fraudulent

Argentine government advisor Santiago Caputo has alleged that approximately 60% of the country's disability pensions are fraudulent. Caputo claimed that the number of beneficiaries surged from 76,000 in 2003 to 1.2 million in 2023, attributing this growth to political corruption rather than public health needs.

The allegations coincide with a controversy involving former legislator and reality TV participant Romina Uhrig. Reports have surfaced regarding a disability certificate allegedly issued in Uhrig's name in 2018, which remains valid until 2028. The document's authenticity is under scrutiny, particularly as it was issued during the tenure of her former partner, Walter Festa, while he served as mayor of Moreno.

In a separate matter, Sebastián Bello has accused Uhrig of fraud related to a Mercedes-Benz vehicle registered in her name that has accumulated over 1 million pesos in unpaid traffic fines. Additionally, Uhrig and Festa are scheduled for trial on November 17 regarding charges of money laundering and illicit enrichment.
