Argentina agricultural producers expand crop diversification

Agricultural diversification efforts are gaining momentum in different regions of Argentina. In southern Mendoza, technical trials conducted by INTA have identified onion production as a viable alternative for diversifying agricultural activity. A study in San Rafael evaluated the Grano de Oro and Valcatorce INTA varieties, with Grano de Oro achieving a significant yield of 104,207 kilograms per hectare in fresh weight and 83,366 kilograms per hectare in commercial yield after curing.

In the province of Misiones, tobacco-farming families are transitioning toward pepper cultivation. Through a financial assistance program for reconversion and diversification, 55 families across 18 municipalities have begun incorporating peppers into their production. This initiative, supported by the Government of Misiones and the Special Tobacco Fund, includes the installation of greenhouses and irrigation systems to strengthen commercial scales and establish new horticultural basins.
