Argentina agricultural workshop promotes perennial pasture use
More than 70 producers, technicians, and local residents participated in the 'Challenges and Achievements of Perennial Pastures' workshop held at the María Elena Fernández de Faciola Popular Library. Organized by the Directorate of Agriculture of the Ministry of Production, the event focused on the implementation and productive benefits of megathermic perennial pasture species.
The session included technical guidance from INTA technician Daiana Huespe, who addressed common errors in sowing and pasture maintenance. A panel of producers, including Sandro Grand, Mario Fetter, Ricardo Negrín, and Evaristo Dumoulin, shared their experiences transitioning to these species.
Participants noted that adopting megathermic pastures reduces the need for annual summer crops like sorghum, which requires continuous investment and planning. The initiative is part of the Perennial Pasture Implementation and Renewal Program, aimed at helping producers maintain available forage during periods of climatic adversity and water deficits.
