Argentina agriculture faces severe crop losses from late frosts

Late frosts across Argentina's productive regions have caused significant damage to vineyards and fruit orchards. In Cafayate, temperatures dropped to -6°C during the sensitive budding stage, with producers reporting losses between 70% and 100% for key varieties such as Torrontés and Malbec.

In the Cuyo region, including San Juan, Mendoza, and Catamarca, recent temperature drops have impacted stone fruits, vines, and olive trees. In San Juan, the Secretary of Agriculture, Miguel Moreno, noted that at least 10,000 hectares have been affected following hundreds of damage reports.

The climate events occur as the agricultural sector faces existing economic challenges, including rising costs and inventory surpluses. Producers in Salta have requested official assistance from provincial and national authorities to mitigate the risk of farm closures and job losses.
