Argentina federal aid to provinces amid economic crisis

Argentina's provincial leaders said institutional dialogue is essential to manage the severe economic downturn affecting local finances. In Tierra del Fuego, Chief of Staff Minister Jorge Canals highlighted ongoing meetings with municipal officials, the governor and national authorities, noting a historic drop in provincial revenues and a substantial reduction in shared‑tax resources. He cited a technical table opened with the Ministry of Economy to address the funding gap and stressed the need for solid agreements to avoid further strain on provincial and municipal services.

At the same time, the national government led by President Javier Milei approved financial assistance of more than 20 billion Argentine pesos for the province of Santa Cruz. The aid, delivered through the Ministry of Economy, is intended to stabilize the province’s finances, ensure payment of salaries and maintain public services, illustrating the federal cooperation framework for provinces facing fiscal difficulties.
