Argentina and Bolivia advance major criminal code reforms

The Argentine government, under President Javier Milei, issued Resolution 276/2026 to create a new commission tasked with reforming the Federal Criminal Procedure Code. The commission, comprising members of the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court and other judicial bodies, will draft a bill aimed at simplifying procedures, modernising the system and updating rules on organised crime, complex economic offences, cyber‑crime and digital evidence. The reform is presented as a shift toward a more transparent and efficient accusatory model.

In Bolivia, Deputy Manolo Rojas (PDC) introduced a bill to launch a public call for drafting a new Penal Code. Signed by ten PDC legislators, the proposal calls for a mixed commission of deputies and senators to consolidate more than ten scattered legal texts within 12‑18 months, with consultation from professional bodies, universities and civil society. Rojas said the initiative seeks to systematise and codify the criminal law framework.
