Argentina and Brazil push forward new border crossing at Alicia Baja‑Santo Antonio

Officials from Argentina’s Misiones province and Brazil’s Dr. Maurício Cardoso municipality met in Colonia Aurora to advance plans for a new international crossing between Alicia Baja and Santo Antonio. Participants included Misiones cabinet coordinator Carlos Sartori, industry minister Federico Fachinello, local mayor Carlos “Cali” Goring and adviser Eduardo Morales Lezica, as well as Brazilian mayor Lauri José Ely, ACIPS president Cristian Rafael Zingler and municipal chief of staff Vicente Girardi. The bilateral meeting aimed to coordinate administrative steps and infrastructure work needed to open the route, which is seen as a strategic link to boost regional integration, trade and mobility across the Uruguay River. Sartori emphasized political will on both sides and urged concrete actions, noting support from Governor Hugo Passalacqua and the Argentine governor’s close monitoring of the project.
