Argentina and Brazil seize 70 illegal fishing nets in Uruguay River
Park rangers from Misiones Provincial Park in Argentina and Turvo State Park in Brazil conducted joint patrols along the Uruguay River to combat illegal fishing. During operations near the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve and the mouth of the Paraíso stream, authorities seized 70 illegal fishing nets and an outboard motor, and dismantled camps used by unauthorized fishers.
The operation took place during a current fishing ban intended to protect aquatic biodiversity. During the patrols, rangers released various fish species, including sábalo, boga, and manguruyú, that had been caught in the illegal nets. This joint effort between Argentine and Brazilian authorities aims to strengthen surveillance and conservation in this ecologically significant shared border region.
