Argentina and Brazil tighten avian flu controls after new cases

In Argentina, the National Service of Agri-Food Health (Senasa) has intensified epidemiological surveillance and bio‑security measures to keep avian influenza contained. The agency reports no new infections in commercial poultry farms and has maintained a 180‑day emergency decree, while coordinating with Honduran poultry organizations and international bodies such as OIRSA and the FAO.

In Brazil, the Federal Laboratory of Agricultural Defense in São Paulo confirmed the first high‑pathogenic avian influenza case of 2026 in a rescued wild bird. Authorities banned animal movement at the local zoo and began active monitoring of three farms within a 10‑kilometre radius, two of which are currently empty. Officials stress that the disease does not spread through consumption of poultry or eggs and that no human infections have been recorded.

Both countries are urging the public to avoid direct contact with sick birds and to follow guidance from veterinary services.
