Argentina and Chile record surge in agricultural and aquaculture export earnings
Argentina's agro‑industrial sector saw foreign‑exchange earnings from grain and oilseed exports reach US$2.677 billion in May 2026, a 7.3 % month‑over‑month increase. Soybean milling rose to 3.479 million tonnes, while corn shipments hit a historic 5.081 million tonnes for April. Sunflower processing also set new monthly records, with the sector’s installed‑capacity utilisation climbing to 76 %.
Chile's fisheries and aquaculture exports totalled US$1.870 billion by February 2026, up 12.1 % year‑on‑year and 33.9 % above the 2021‑2025 average. Aquaculture accounted for 80 % of export value, driven by salmon, which represented 77.4 % of the sector’s earnings. Export volumes rose 21 % to 398.9 kt, with Asia, especially China, remaining the main market.
