Argentina and Chile report sharp falls in senior government representation and health system performance

In Argentina, a new survey of the State Map shows that women’s share of senior public administration positions dropped from 39% in 2022 to 22% in 2026, a loss of 17 percentage points. Only two ministries – Human Capital and Security – are led by women, and the Defence Ministry has no women in its top ranks. The decline follows President Javier Milei’s cabinet reshuffle that dissolved the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity.

In Chile, Health Minister May Chomali warned that the public hospital network’s compliance with management commitments fell from 86.7% in 2021 to 68.6% in 2025, a drop of more than 18 points. She attributed the deterioration to under‑utilised beds, long wait lists and low occupancy in many hospitals, citing regional variations such as 83% compliance in Osorno versus 54.6% in Coquimbo.

Both reports highlight noticeable setbacks in key public‑sector indicators under recent administrations in the two countries.
